Dressing Your Post-Baby Body

Pregnancy and childbirth can really take a toll on your body, but don't let those extra kilos make you feel bad; it's only natural that you gain weight after pregnancy. So until you manage to lose that baby weight follow our dressing tips to feel comfortable and look good.

Go through your pregnancy clothes. Chances are the clothes you used to wear three to four months into your pregnancy will fit you well now and will help hide some of the weight. 

Think prints. Tops with prints are great for new moms because they hide the body's imperfections, conceal stains from baby spit-up and feedings, and add color to your wardrobe. 

Look for tops that are easy to pull up or unbutton. Such tops make breastfeeding a simpler process. Tops that have longer lengths won't reveal your midriff when you're moving, and will cover tight waistbands if your pants don't fit properly yet. Don't buy anything that's dry clean only. 

Take an inventory of your closet. Doing so will enable you to figure out which of your pants and skirts with elastic waistbands you can wear, and whether you need to buy anything new or not. If you do need to buy new items, make sure you go for neutral colored bottoms, as they can be matched with most bold tops.  
Be patient when trying on your old clothes. You might not be able to fit into your favorite jeans yet, but don't let that get you down. Wait a month before trying on your pre-pregnancy clothes, and if they don't fit put them away for another month before you try them on again. In the meantime, buy a set of clothes that fit your new body well and make you feel comfortable. 

Put off shopping until you're ready to go back to work if you're planning on doing so. When you do go shopping, try out different sizes and see which of them fit you properly. Don’t be tempted to buy something that's closer to your original size to satisfy you ego – chances are it's not going to look very good. Don't worry about the size on the label, no one is going to see it aside from you; focus on how well those clothes fit you instead. Don't buy an entire wardrobe either, just purchase a few classic pieces and go for a shopping spree once you've achieved your weight-loss goals. 

Don't rush things. It took you 9 months to put on that baby weight, so you can't expect to slim down in a month or two. But don't let that dishearten you, and don't make yourself feel worse by trying to squeeze into your old clothes; set realistic weight-loss goals and make healthy dieting choices. In the meantime, buy a few new clothes that make you look and feel good, and enjoy those features about your body that you're proud of.
