Beauty Basics: Fast and Easy Makeup

Time is a rare commodity when you're a new mother who's trying to juggle the needs of her baby, home, and career (if you have one), so learning how to use the time that you do have as effectively as possible is a much required skill. This means that you'll have to learn to do things that used to take you twenty minutes in five, and this includes applying your makeup.

Use long-lasting cosmetics that pull double duty.

If you're short on time to apply makeup in the first place, chances are you won't have much time to spare for reapplying it later on during the day either, so make your makeup last longer by following these tips:

Choose long-lasting water- and smudge-proof cosmetic products that you only need to put on once and can ignore for the rest of day.

Make long-lasting makeup last even longer by spraying it with a fine mist of water to seal it in and avoid the need to freshen it up later on.

Use products that can do two jobs in one go, such as makeup that can double as lipstick and a blush for your cheeks, or concealer that can be an eyelid primer or serve as foundation.

Apply the same concept to your nails as well; keep your nails neat and short and use nail polish comprising "extreme wear" formulas to keep them intact for  longer periods of time.

Figure out what you need and get rid of what you don't

Try to keep your makeup kit stripped down to the bare essentials. Get rid of everything that you don't strictly need to use on a daily basis. For example, if your lips have a rich natural hue, dispense with the lipstick. Similarly, if your eyelashes are naturally thick, let go of that mascara. In other words, simplify your makeup and work with what you've got.

Follow a simple makeup routine

You don't need to apply every type of cosmetic to look and feel good. Here's a simple makeup routine that's guaranteed to make you look fresh and polished:

Use Your Concealer – Your first step is to use concealer to cover up facial blemishes, discoloration and pimples for a smooth look.

Apply Your Base – Apply a tinted moisturizer to give yourself some color before you begin putting on the rest of your makeup.

Work Your Eyes – If you need it, apply mascara to your eyelashes, but don't use too much. If you can go without, simply use an eyelash curler to accentuate your lashes.

Apply a Little Blush – Use cheek stain or blush on the apples of your cheeks by rubbing it on in a circular motion.

Touch Up Your Lips – Last but not least, give your lips a bit of color by using your cheek stain as a lip stain. If you don't have cheek stain, use tinted lip gloss instead.
